Summer reading is here!

Our staff has been hard at work preparing for a fun-filled summer reading program! Check below what’s happening for the youth, teens, and adults!

Children

The Thorntown Public Library will begin its summer reading program for children on Monday, June 7th. This year’s theme is “Tail and Tails.” Kids can register online at Beanstack or stop in the library to register and pick up a summer reading log. Babies and preschool age children will be given the option to complete a list of fun and educational activities. Parents/Caregivers are also eligible to win some great prizes just for encouraging their children to participate! Older kids in the program are asked to keep track of the minutes they read and can earn incentive prizes for reading each week. A free book will also be given to each child that reaches their summer goal. The program runs until July 17th.

We are also excited to bring other fun entertainment experiences to the community during this time. Our kickoff program arrives on June 8th at 2:00 with the Indy Air Bears. This professional jump rope team has performed at Colts and Pacers half time shows and even at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! After the show, the team will meet with the kids that attend to teach them jump roping tips and tricks. We are also giving away FREE jump ropes while supplies last!

Do you want to get wet? Everyone loves “The Water Show.” This show combines magic and water to provide lots of excitement! Other fun programs this summer will include the Indiana Wild Animal Show, the Hillbilly Silly Science Show and a Foam Party! We are also bringing back our Color Run, the Carnival (with lots of games, prizes and free pizza) Super Summer Bingo, the Box Maze and a town Treasure Hunt. (A skunk just might be involved this year!) Younger kids can join Mr. Daniel as he shares his love of singing, dancing, games, movement and instruments.

Pick up an event calendar at the library for all the details or visit our online calendar at https://thorntownpl.org. All library programs are FREE and open to anyone that wishes to participate. Thorntown Public Library also accepts all Evergreen library cards, although you do not need a card to join in on the fun! Reading during the summer break helps children improve the reading skills they have developed during the school year. All families should take advantage of the summer reading program to help their children continue to be engaged and excited about learning.
